Can You Engrave Your Pet's Photo on a Necklace?

Short answer: yes. We laser-engrave one photo of your dog, cat or any other pet onto a 925 sterling silver pendant: round, square or heart-shaped, each €79.99. Which pendants can take a pet photo?

A photo needs a wide, flat surface, so we engrave pictures on three pendant shapes only. Each comes in 925 silver and in 14K gold-plated 925 silver:

All three hang on a 45 cm chain with a 5 cm extender. Rings, bracelets and earrings are too narrow for a picture, so they take text and symbols only. Every photo piece is in our photo engraving collection.

Is there a limit of one photo per pendant?

Yes: one photo per piece. This is a physical limit of the pendant, not a store rule: a thin piece of silver cannot carry a photo engraving on both faces. Put your pet on the front, and leave the back plain or add a few words. If you have two pets, choose a photo where both sit close together, or order two pendants.

How do you choose a pet photo that engraves well?

A laser cannot print colour or grey ink. It turns the photo into a pattern of very fine dots, so contrast and a close crop matter more than a sharp camera. Our guide to the photo engraved necklace explains the process in full. For pets specifically:

• Get down to eye level. A photo taken from above shows the top of the head; a photo at your pet's eye level shows the face you know.
• Fill the frame with the face. The pendant is small. Head and shoulders work better than the whole dog on the lawn.
• Look for the eyes. Choose a photo where both eyes are in focus and catch a little light. That is what makes the engraving feel alive.
• Contrast with the background. A light-coloured cat on a darker sofa, or a dark dog against a light wall, engraves more clearly than a pet that blends into its background.
• Dark fur needs light. Black and dark-brown pets lose detail in shadow. Pick a photo taken in daylight, ideally by a window, where the light shows the shape of the face.
• Send the original file. A photo straight from your phone keeps more detail than a screenshot or a picture forwarded through a messaging app.

What should you engrave on the back?

• The name: Bella, Rex, Murka. Up to 15 characters on the coin and square pendants.
• A name and a symbol: our engraving library has a paw print, a heart and a star.
• A date: the day your pet came home, or a birthday, such as 14.05.2021.
• Two years: 2012 2026, for a pet you want to remember. A memorial piece is a gentle way to keep a companion close after a loss.

Silver or gold-plated?

On 925 silver the photo appears in soft grey tones; on 14K gold-plated silver it shows as a dark picture against the gold. Both keep the same detail. Pendants keep their plating much longer than rings and bracelets, because they do not rub against surfaces all day. Underneath the plating is hallmarked 925 sterling silver.

Frequently asked questions

Can I engrave a photo of my dog on a ring or bracelet?

No. Photos need a wider flat surface, so we engrave them only on the round, square and heart pendants. Rings and bracelets take text and symbols, including a paw print.

Will the photo of my pet fade?

No. The engraving changes the surface of the metal itself; it is not ink or print, so it does not wash off or fade.

Can I engrave two pets on one pendant?

Yes, if both are in the same photo and sit close together. One photo per pendant is the limit, so two separate photos need two pendants.

Can I return a pet photo necklace?

Engraved pieces are made to your photo, so under EU consumer law they cannot be returned. They are covered by our 24-month warranty against manufacturing defects.
